À PROPOS DE MÉLA

MÉLA, the first syllables of my name: MÉlanie LAplante In Sanskrit, it means to gather, to unite.

A nod to the thermoforming and fusion technique, which I primarily use to create from my home studio.

Fascinated by the beauty and versatility of glass, I decided to fully dedicate myself to this art by founding my own studio. This is how MÉLA was born, a reference to the signature I place on each of my works, both large and small.

My entrepreneurial journey in the world of fine crafts began 20 years ago, driven by my passion for artistic creation and my desire to share my love for glass, which I learned as a self-taught artist.

After spending several years backpacking around the world, sailing on the Red Sea and the Pacific Ocean, and exploring their depths as a DiveMaster, I settled for several years between Costa Rica and Peru. It was there that I learned the artisanal craft of jewelry making. Upon returning to live in Quebec, I sought a new way to create, and that’s when I fell in love with glass. From my very first attempts, glass quickly became my material of choice.

At the MÉLA workshop, each piece is handcrafted, one by one. I cut the glass, melt it, cut and saw the metal, then shape it by filing, sanding, and soldering, finally combining the two materials to create unique jewelry and objects. I love the creative fusion of glass, light, and color. Vibrant hues, clean, dense forms come together to allow glass and silver to coexist harmoniously, creating visually striking pieces full of light and character.

Jewelry to wear, jewelry to adorn your home, and jewelry for the table, each creation is an invitation to celebrate beauty and art in your daily life. MÉLA jewelry is designed for those who appreciate unique, handcrafted pieces bursting with color.
